3 ways to give your coffee a twist
Avoiding the sugar cube đ
If you’re a regular visitor to coffee shops, you’ve certainly noticed the craze for signature drinks and revisits to classic recipes. Vanilla latte, white matcha latte or hazelnut cappuccino are all ways of twisting the taste of coffee, and drinks you love! Coffee -and tea- are a great base for countless drinks. âïžđ«
The barista’s job is not only to master his or her recipes and know everything about coffee preparation, but also to invent new ones! True followers of L’Occasion CafĂ© remember: our former barista LĂ©o launched caffeinated cocktails, signature drinks he’d dreamed up himself đ.
This article is dedicated to all the curious and Sunday baristas, who have what it takes to make a good coffee at home and are looking for new ideas. (And as we like to make your mouth water, all the drinks we’re going to talk about in this article can be found at l’Occasion cafĂ©, on site or to take away đ).
Give your coffee a twist...with sweeteners
If you’re used to putting a lump of sugar in your coffee, stop it! â
There are many other ways to sweeten your drink, adding an extra taste that’s just as interesting as coffee. If it were up to us, we’d tell you that specialty coffee needs no sweetening whatsoever. đ
We’re not going to lie to you: specialty coffee doesn’t need to be sweet. A good coffee already develops a palette of aromas and flavors that an addition of sugar risks erasing. However, everyone has their own preferences and tolerance to sugar.
So, if you’re keen to add some sweetness to your drink, we recommend other alternatives. There are several options that, in addition to being delicious, require ingredients that you almost all already have in your cupboards đđ.
CHOCOLATE
You see, we all have them in our cupboards! On a more serious note, chocolate is a recurring ingredient in coffee drinks, most notably in the famous mocaccino! For those who don’t know, we like to call it âthe grown-up snackâ đ€. It’s simply a cappuccino, with a touch of cocoa or chocolate syrup.
And if this drink is famous enough to be on the menu of every coffee shop, our guess must be right… Give it a try and let us know how you like it!
Then to move away from coffee for a moment, there’s also a drink that’s really appealing to you right now, and that’s the white matcha latte. đ€

Matcha is a powdered green tea well known for its health benefits, and also one of the trends of recent years. With frothed milk and a little white chocolate, we obtain the white matcha latte. The combination of white chocolate and matcha also works wonders in patisserie.

SYRUPS
All these drinks like vanilla latte, hazelnut cappuccino, maple latte… It’s basically a shot of syrup of your choice, added to your cup to twist the taste of the coffee. There’s something for everyone! đ
When it comes to syrups, don’t hesitate to surprise yourself and try a multitude of different flavors. When we say surprise yourself, that means testing flavors you wouldn’t instinctively put together.đ Recently, we tried violet syrup in cappuccino, and it’s become our drink of the moment to celebrate the arrival of spring! đž
Â
For more indulgence, there are popcorn syrups or tiramisu syrup from monin, which we’ve already used in our winter latte (which you’ll love). In fact, the winter latte is the perfect example of drinks revisited. It’s a hot chocolate to which we’ve added tiramisu syrup and a shot of espresso, as well as a bed of whipped cream and speculoos. In this case, our greediness has earned us some inventiveness đ€Ł

CINNAMON
Good for your health and your taste buds, cinnamon is the secret ingredient in many delicious recipes… We add a dash to our maple latte, for example. đ
Its soft, sweet aroma enhances coffee without overpowering its taste. The coffee + cinnamon duo is a tried-and-tested combination!
Also present in golden latte, cinnamon helps control blood sugar levels and will prevent you from energy slumps during your day. It also aids digestion! Like most spices, cinnamon is a real superfood to be incorporated without moderation in all your recipes and especially… in your coffee đ
In conclusion, there are a thousand and one ways to give your coffee a tasty, gourmet twist. Whether you’re a fan of chocolate, spices or subtle aromas, there’s something for everyone.
And of course, all these delicious creations can be found at L’Occasion CafĂ©, so come and taste them! â
